A 42-year-old lady came with severe stomach pain. A CT scan showed she had chronic pancreatitis – a condition where the pancreas becomes permanently damaged and inflamed. It also showed many stones in her pancreatic duct and a large infected collection (pus) near the pancreas. She was first treated with antibiotics and fluids but didn’t get better. She was then referred to Dr. Manoj Dongare, an expert HPB and liver transplant surgeon.

A repeat CT scan suggested that the infection had leaked into the stomach. An endoscopy confirmed that pus was draining into the stomach. With the help of an advanced EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound), a plastic stent was placed through this opening to drain the infected collection. The patient was managed with antibiotics and special feeding for a few weeks. Once the infection and inflammation had reduced, she was taken for surgery.

Dr. Manoj Dongare performed a complex pancreatic surgery:

  • Opened the pancreatic duct and removed the stones
  • Removed the infected tract and closed the stomach opening
  • Performed a Frey’s Procedure – a special surgery that relieves pressure in the pancreas and helps drain the duct properly

Except for a small wound infection that needed minor suturing, her recovery was smooth. She was discharged on the 17th day and is now doing well. If you or your loved one is facing pancreatic pain or complications, consult Dr. Manoj Dongare, trusted by patients across Maharashtra.
